Class Descriptions

~Parent & Me - Ages 2 to 3~

Parent & Me is a developmental class focusing on Parent/Guardian and child participation designed for dancers ages 2 to 3 years and their parent. Students are exposed to different styles of music, movement, fun dance games & props, and quality time with a parent, grandparent, guardian, or care-taker. This class offers an introduction of valuable skills such as listening, taking turns, standing in line, and following directions. Parents assist their children by guiding their movements, helping them stay on task, encouraging involvement, and easing them into independent involvement. This class offers an environment for children to developmentally grow, both individually and socially in a dance class setting. Additionally, activities will explore gross motor skill development and rhythm activities. This class is a pre-introduction to dance and is a great class to help transition your children into a dance class on their own.

~Level 1 - Ages 2.5 to 3~

Our tiniest dancers will begin here! Level 1 is a 45-minute introductory class for toddlers focusing on creative movement, basic tumbling, and ballet. Students are introduced to elementary ballet vocabulary while exploring movement, music, and their imagination in fun and creative ways. Boys and girls will work on developing their gross motor skills, muscle strength, coordination, and classroom socialization while exploring their independence by attending class without parental assistance. Our instructors use fun imagination games and upbeat age-appropriate music to inspire and excite students about dance. Students will also work on classroom skills such as following directions, listening, and working with others. This class is a positive and fun first dance experience for all!

~Level 2 – Ages 4 to 6~

Our Level 2 class is a 60-minute class that consists of ballet, tap, tumbling, and creative movement. Level 2 dancers are introduced to more formal dance technique. This class will lay the foundation for correct, safe, and successful dancing in years to follow while still creating a fun and engaging environment for our young dancers to learn and grow. Students will expand on the basic steps and terminology from Level 1 and continue to explore their own creative movement in a safe and positive environment. Along with the introduction of more skills and techniques, our instructors continue to foster creativity and imagination in class through movement and imagination games. Students will also work on refining rhythm and musicality through listening games and rhythm activities. Dancers in this class will continue to improve upon their flexibility, coordination, and classroom socialization.

The following classes are offered for all dancers, boys and girls, ages 5 & up

Classes exclusively for boys are offered in Hip Hop

Adult Classes (18+) are offered in Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Hip Hop, and Clogging

~Ballet~

Ballet is the foundation of most modern day dance forms. This beautiful and demanding technique is a necessity for all young, aspiring dancers. Beginning classes focus on classroom etiquette, proper placement, and body alignment. As students advance, training encourages greater precision, a quickness and lightness of movement, the ability to cover space with ease and grace, and a refined carriage of the body. The importance of strength, flexibility, memorization, and performance will be stressed. Each class will include barre exercises, center floor work, and across-the-floor combinations. Our ballet curriculum is based on the French Cecchetti method.

~Pointe (Age 12+)~

Advanced ballet dancers who successfully develop the required strength and control may be promoted to pointe shoes. Dancers must have extensive ballet training to be able to participate in our pointe classes. Students must meet certain requirements and must audition and gain permission to enroll in Pointe class.

~Jazz~

Jazz combines many styles and techniques from popular and contemporary dance to ballet. Our jazz classes teach basic jazz dance technique, terminology, and style with an emphasis on proper technique, alignment, and movement quality. Classes include engaging warm-ups, isolations, stretches, across-the-floor progressions, and choreography combinations. These classes are for dancers who like precision and rhythm, physical challenges, and personal style and expression. Set to a variety of fun, engaging, and age-appropriate music, jazz classes are a great workout and fun for all ages.

~Tap~

Tap is a style of American theatrical dance, distinguished by percussive footwork and rhythms. Tap dancers will develop their coordination, rhythmic understanding, and musicality in an upbeat and supportive environment. Students will develop their tap skills such as phrasing, timing, and breath while learning traditional tap vocabulary. Students learn the technique and history of tap with a strong emphasis on musicality through warm-ups, time-steps, named-steps, historical choreography, original choreography, and improvisation. Tap dance is a fun and exciting class for dancers looking to make some noise!

~Acrobatics~

Acrobatic dance, or acro, uses strength and flexibility to perform gymnastic-based tricks. Acro is a creative fusion of classic dance technique and the precision of athleticism of acrobatic elements. Our acro classes will help dancers develop and improve their skills in flexibility, strength, balancing, limbering, coordination, and tumbling. Students will begin with basic stunts such as log rolls, forward rolls, cartwheels, and beginner balances. More advanced students will continue to add to their repertoire with more advanced tumbling, balances, and stunts. Instructors are trained to provide every student with the necessary instruction and skills to ensure students are developing their acrobatic skills in a safe way.

~Lyrical~

Lyrical dance began as an offshoot of jazz dance and was originally termed ‘lyrical jazz’. For that reason, lyrical is considered a fusion of ballet and jazz, with expressive movements that aim to tell a story. A unique trait of the lyrical genre is the emotional connection and storytelling brought to life by the song lyrics. Movement may be choreographed to the lyrics of a song, not just the rhythm. Students will learn lyrical technique along with how to express emotion through their movement to create a connection with their audiences.

~Modern & Contemporary~

These classes blend elements of Contemporary and Modern dance, such as freedom of expression, interpretation of music, principles of fall and recovery, control, breathing, balance and contraction/release. Teachers incorporate an eclectic blend of contemporary and postmodern movement into their classes. Modern and Contemporary Dance forms allow students to explore their individual dance style outside of the structure of traditional ballet and jazz classes.

~Hip Hop~

Hip Hop encompasses many different urban dance styles such as popping, locking, breaking, as well as freestyle movement to give students the opportunity to develop their own sense of style. Our Hip Hop classes teach rhythm, coordination, musicality and choreography without suggestive music or movements. Students are challenged to think on their feet while enjoying an energetic and fast-paced dance class. Our Hip Hop dancers develop focus, strength, and agility while having fun. This is an excellent class for high-energy kids who want to take a fast and fun dance class.

~Musical Theatre~

Musical theatre dance classes will focus on learning proper dance technique while exploring the various dance styles used in Broadway shows. Class curriculum is based on ballet technique layered with Broadway style jazz movement and includes  proper warm-ups, stretches, isolations, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations. Emphasis will also be placed on learning performance skills such as connecting with the audience and telling a story through dance and facial expressions.

~Pom-Pom~

Pom is a style of dance that involves Jazz technique while hitting sharp clean movements, execution of choreographic visuals, and dance team/cheer skills. Dancers hold pom-poms for this style and follow similar movements to cheer. Dancers will learn fundamentals of Pom positions, performance skills, and push dancers to expand on their high energy, entertainment skills.

~Clogging~

Originating from Appalachian Mountain folk dancing and similar to tap, clogging uses shoes with a double tap which creates the well known jingle sound to keep beat and create intricate rhythms. The additional emphasis of the heel, advanced steps and bouncing allow for the creation of completely different percussive sounds and rhythm patterns. In this class students will learn a variety of steps and combinations beginning with traditional clogging steps in the younger levels, to more modern and intricate precision steps in advanced classes. Partnering steps are also part of traditional clogging that will be taught and explored during class.

~Production~

Our Production class combines all genres of dance with the goal of putting together a themed dance performance. Classes focus on developing and fine-tuning technical skills while working on performance skills. Dancers experience what it is like working with large groups of dancers and multiple choreographers to create a fun and entertaining dance number. Previous production themes have included: Welcome to the Jungle, Twisted Wizard, Circus, Down at the Ol’ Five and Dime, Pirates, Zombies, Candy Land, Birds, Urban Jungle, and Vegas Nights.

~Strength, Stretch, & Conditioning~

These classes are intended to improve overall fitness, flexibility, coordination,  and athleticism for all of our dancers. Classes include a variety of cardio and strength exercises that help dancers increase their stamina and muscle strength. Stretching exercises help dancers focus on improving their flexibility to enhance their dance technique. These group classes are great for dancers looking to improve their dance skills while experiencing a fun and high-energy workout.

~Leaps & Turns~

Leaps and turns is a special class to help dancers work on these often challenging areas of dances. Classes will be designed to help each dancer identify and work on specific techniques and skills needed to improve their understanding and performance of specific leaps, jumps, and turns!
